We don’t need no education? Education policies of Western European populist radical right parties

Populist radical right parties (PRRPs) have become more mainstream, increasing their relevance in European politics. While a lot is already known about them, there are still gaps our knowledge. This article addresses one such gap by studying Western PRRPs’ positions on education policy. It focuses the salience of election manifestos, substantive that hold, and how far these reflect core ideology. Constructing novel framework based ideologies three dimensions policies, including an often-neglected content dimension, presents results from qualitative analysis 15 manifestos. The show policy relevant for PRRPs, albeit to varying degrees, policies informed ideologies. findings important implications understanding dynamics liberal democracies as PRRPs fundamentally challenge normative foundations systems.
